Three sisters drown in Kushtia canal
Three sisters, aged between four to eight, have drowned in a canal in Charsadipur village of Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila. The deceased are Salma Khatun, 5, and Laboni Khatun, the daughters of Shafiqul Islam of the village, and their maternal cousin Marium, 8, the daughter of Saidul Islam. “The children drowned while bathing in the canal on Friday afternoon,” local Charsadipur Union Parishad Chairman Tofazzal Hossain said. “After a frantic search, family members found their dead bodies floating in the canal, which joins the Padma River,” the UP chairman added. As their maternal uncle Alamin was scheduled to fly for Saudi Arabia on Saturday, the family members had organised a get together to celebrate the occasion. However, the deaths of the children left their parents and relatives in shock. Kumarkhali police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Khalek said a police team was immediately sent to the spot.
