Police have recovered the floating bodies of four fishermen, missing since a boat capsized in the Meghna estuary on Tuesday morning, from near Janatarghat area in Noakhali's Hatia uapzila.
The deceased are Rashed, 30, Kamrul, 28, Rocky, 26, and Swapan, 20, from Adarshagram village of the upazila.
According to local sources, there were six fishermen on board the capsized boat.
They were returning after catching fish from the Meghna River and went to sleep after anchoring the boat at a pontoon in Janatarghat area early Monday.
Swept by a sudden strong surge in the water, the boat crashed against the pontoon. The bottom of the boat's keel cracked open on impact, and the boat sank in no time.
Two of the fishermen managed to swim ashore.
Later, around 10am, locals spotted four dead bodies floating in the river near the capsize spot.
Police rushed to the scene on information and recovered the bodies.
Hatia police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Majid said the bodies of the deceased have already been handed over to their relatives.
