The bodies of 16 people have been recovered so far, after a boat carrying Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar sank off the coast of Inani Beach in Cox's Bazar on Thursday.
Among the deceased, nine are children and five are women.
Inani police camp in-charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Stalin Barua confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
The boat sank at around 5:30pm after hitting rocks near the shoreline, the SI said.
He added that police, with the aid of locals, were conducting rescue efforts and 26 people had been rescued. The boat is suspected to have been carrying around 50 passengers.
