Militant suspect Khadiza sent to jail

Update : 10 Oct 2017, 05:00 PM
A Jessore court has sent militant suspect Khadiza Akhter to jail. Jessore Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Akram Hossain gave the order as Khadiza was produced before his court with her two-year-old son in her lap on Tuesday morning. The court has also fixed October 19 for hearing the seven-day remand petition against her. Khadiza, who is suspected to be a member of a new faction banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB), surrendered to the law enforcers during a raid in Jessore town's Ghop Noapara area around 2:30pm Monday. She is the sister of Marjan, one of the planners of Holey Artisan attack that killed 22 people, including 17 foreigners, in Dhaka’s Gulshan area on July 1, 2016. Several teams of police cordoned off a four-storey building, located near the Jame Mosque on Ghop Noapara Road, around 10pm on Sunday. Five families were rescued from the building around noon on Monday and Khadiza surrendered along with her son and two daughters at 3:05pm. After Khadiza’s surrender, a bomb disposal team entered the building and three large explosions were heard between 4:30pm and 5pm, as the suicide vests were defused. Kotwali police station Inspector Tofail Ahmed filed a case against Khadiza and her husband Hasidur Rahman Sagar alias Moshiur, believed to be another planner of the Holey Artisan attack, on Monday in this connection.
