
Police have detained a Rohingya woman along with her five-year-old son and mother in Bogra town for trying to lodge passport applications with fake papers.
The arrestees are Hajera Bibi, 22, wife of Abu Saleh, an expatriate Rohingya living in Indonesia; Hajera's son Osman Gani, 5; and her mother Amena Khatun, 55.
Hajera went to Bogra Regional Passport Office with forged papers around 5pm to lodge the passport applications for herself and her family members.
“Officials became suspicious when Hajera looked distracted while answering queries about her father's name and address, The passport forms were earlier downloaded from the Passport Office website,” said Shahjahan Kabir, assistant director of Bogra Regional Passport Office.
The officials detained the woman and handed her over to Sadar police station.
Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Emdad Hossain said during primary interrogation, Hajera had admitted she acquired forged birth certificates of the family members with the help of one Abdul Mannan of Dupchachia Sadar union.
Hajera was a woman with speech impairment and she answered the questions by writing on a paper.
Besides, she revealed that her mother Amena and son Osman were staying at Tarapur village of the union.
On information, a team of Dupchachia police station detained Amena and her grandson from that village and sent them to Sadar police station.
Sadar police furthur gleaned from Amena that she, her daughter and grandson used to live in a refugee camp in Cox's Bazar.
Abdul Mannan, seemingly a broker from Dupchachia union, made an agreement with them to arrange for their passport from Bogra Regional Passport Office, according to Amena.
They were planning to move to Malaysia, where one of Hajera's brothers live, on Bangladeshi passport.
Steps have been taken to return the three detainees to the refugee camp in Cox's Bazar.
