At least four people have been killed and five others injured by lightning strikes in different areas of Jamalpur and Kurigram.
Our Jamalpur correspondent reported that two people were killed in separate lightning strikes in district’s Dewanganj upazila around 2pm on Friday.
The deceased are Aizol Haque, 50, from Chukaibari union and Minhaj Uddin, 15 from Bahadurbad union.
Dewanganj police station OC Md Mostasinur Rahman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
In Kurigram, two more people were killed while five others were reportedly injured by lightning strikes in two upazilas in the district on Friday.
The deceased are Ahammad Ali Amed, 35, from Fulbari upazila and Taslima Akter, 13, from Nageshwari upazila.
Ahammad Ali, along with his sibling Nurnabi, 40, and nine-year-old nephew Mozammel Haque Mozam and one Rafiqul Islam, went for fishing in Dharla River on Friday noon.
When they reached in the mid-river, a lightning struck their boat leaving Ahammad Ali dead on the spot and the rest of the three severely injured.
Chairman of Borovita union Md Khoibor Ali confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Another deceased Taslima Akter was a class-six student at Askarnagar High School.
Two housewives were reportedly injured in Nageshwari’s Santoshpur union.
