
Authorities of Sutrajitpur High School in Mymensingh postponed two papers of SSC prep examination on Wednesday for according a reception to Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam, drawing strong criticism from both the students and guardians.
The school authorities issued a notice scheduling the postponed examinations on Thursday. However, the decision to reschedule the examination on the day of Kali Puja festival has caused further uproar among the students.
The Dhaka Tribune has learned that Sutrajitpur High School accorded a reception to a meritorious former student, Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam, on Wednesday.
The programme was chaired by the school Headmaster Md Sadiqul Islam.
However, the school authorities postponed the Chemistry and History tests for the ongoing SSC prep exams on that day to accommodate the reception programme.
The school headmaster could not be reached for comments.
Another teacher, on condition of anonymity, told the Dhaka Tribune: "The exams scheduled on Wednesday were postponed to Thursday. The headmaster made the announcement through a notice."
These examinations were held in every other school in the district on schedule. The teacher however could explain how Sutrajitpur High School would hold the exams, when the question papers have already reached the hands of other students.
Speaking on the matter, Mymensingh District Secondary Education Officer Abdul Latif said: "The school authorities did not convey the matter to me before postponing the exams. Halting an exam to accord reception to a government officer does not fall under any regulation."
