7 die as boats carrying Rohingyas capsize

At least seven Rohingyas have died after in two separate incidents of trawler and boat capsizes. Four people died after a boat capsized at Baillakhali point of Rajapalong union in Ukhiya upazila under Cox’s Bazar district around 8:30am on Tuesday. Local UP Member Shafiul Alam said: “We have managed to rescue 32 Rohingyas. The boat might have capsized because of overload. “The rescued Rohingyas have been sent to local hospitals.” Ukhiya police station Office-in-Charge Abul Khayer said: “A team of police went to the spot and recovered the body of a child. The others died after being taken to a clinic in Shyampur.” Ukhiya UNO Md Nikaruzzaman said: “The deceased will be buried in a local graveyard.”

Earlier in the day, police recovered the bodies of three Rohingya children, who went missing after a boat capsized in Teknaf upazila Monday night. Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge Moinuddin said: “After receiving the news, a team of police went to the spot and recovered the bodies.” According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), at least 605,000 Rohingyas have entered Bangladesh since August 25. According to a press release issued by the PID, at least 187 Rohingyas have died in trawler and boat capsizes since August 25.
