Update : 01 Nov 2017, 08:35 PM
Nearly 100 people of different ages in a fishing community have been diagnosed with Chikungunya disease under Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong. The mosquito-borne disease broke out at the Madanhat Jele Para of Shitalpur village in Sonaichhari union recently, according to residents of the area and local health officials. Dr Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, civil surgeon of Chittagong, also told the Dhaka Tribune that a total of 95 people, including children and elderly people, were diagnosed with Chikungunya symptoms over the last two days. “The primary symptoms point to Chikungunya. However, we will collect blood samples from all patients suffering from high fever and run tests for confirmation,” he said. He added that three teams were already formed to provide the community with necessary medical services. “There is nothing to panic over the outbreak as the disease is not life-threatening. We have been raising awareness among people of densely populated areas about this. We have already distributed 100 mosquito nets and medicines among the affected people of the area,” he said.
