10 hurt in clash during jumma prayer in Jhenidah
At least 10 people including a woman were injured in a clash over collecting charitable donations during the Jumma prayers at a mosque in Jhenidah's Shailakupa upazila. Local sources said a dispute ensued between Laltu Biswas and Rabbi Mollah of Kakuria village over the collection of charity money from the Jumma congregation inside the village mosque. At one point, the dispute led to a fierce brawl between two groups of villagers. The two groups attacked each other with sticks and locally made sharp weapons, leaving at least 10 people injured. The injured are Bokul Mollah, 50, Akidul Islam, 45, Rafiqul Islam, Shafi Mollah, Rabiul Mollah, Bhulu Mollah, Kabir Mollah, Laltu Mollah, 60, and Chaina Begum, 37. They were admitted to the upazila health complex. Jhenidah Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shailakupa Circle) Tareq Al Mehedi said they had deployed police to that area to bring the situation under control.
