A Barguna court has granted a two-day remand for each of the two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders, who were arrested on Sunday in a case for raping and murduring a girl in Barguna's Patharghata uapzila.
Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Manjurul Islam gave the order on Monday afternoon when the Detective Branch (DB) of police produced BCL's Patharghata College unit President Ruhi Anan Danial and its General Secretary Saddam Hossain Chhotto in court.
The court granted a two-day remand responding to a petition for a seven-day remand for each of the arrestees, confirmed Barguna Superintendent of Police (SP) Bijoy Basak.
Police did not file any remand petition against the two other arrestees – BCL leaders Mahmud and Raihan – as they agreed to give confessional statements under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Mahmud finally deposed his confessional statement before the court, but Raihan declined.
Police will produce Raihan before the court and file a remand petition against him on Tuesday, said Patharghata police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Ziaul Haque.
Meanwhile, the central committee of BCL on Monday issued a press notice announcing the suspension of the four accused BCL leaders.

On November 10, a team of the DB detained 44-year-old college guard Jahangir for interrogation.
Jahangir confessed to his crimes before the court, said Barguna’s Superintendent of Police, Bijoy Bosak to the media.
The police were able to extract leads related to the crime from Jahangir that led them to make the arrests of Chhatra League leaders Mahmud and Rayhan who have also been interrogated.
SP Bijoy said, Mahmud admitted to his involvement in the incident and mentioned the names of four others who he claimed were also involved.
On Sunday, Danial and Saddam were arrested on the basis of Mahmud’s confession.
“We now have all the five accused in our custody,” the Barguna police chief said.
The identity of the victim has not yet been determined.
