
Chittagong Hill Tracts based political party United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) is enforcing a daylong road blockade in Khagrachhari on Thursday, accusing that that the newly formed party UPDF-Democratic used its name.
A picket took place in support of the blockade by burning tyres near Fire Service area of the Dhaka-Khagrachhari highway.
In addition to that, supporters have been taking positions at different points of the district.
No long-route vehicles were seen moving on road.
Road communication between Khagrachhari and other districts remains blocked but movement of light vehicles has been seen to be normal in the town.
Khagrachhari Police Superintendent Ali Ahmad said that they had received no report of violence in the district during the blockade so far.
On Wednesday, through a press conference at district's Khagrapur area, a new organization named UPDF-Democratic announced its establishment claiming UPDF to be an undemocratic and corrupt organization.
On the same day the UPDF-backed supporters called for a daylong blockade in the district for Thursday.
