Two Hindu temples vandalized in Magura, one arrested
Two temples have been vandalized at Kadirpara village in Magura’s Sreepur upazila over a disputed related to Debutter land (property that has been endowed in favour of an idol). A group of people attacked the temples Monday evening, leaving seven people injured. Among the injured, two were taken to Magura Sadar Hospital in critical conditions. According to locals, a group of has been illegally occupying almost 10 acres of land belonging to Kadirpara Radhakanta Lakshmi Narayan Jio Mandir. Confirming the matter, police Superintendent Torikul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that they have arrested one Islam Sheikh for his alleged involvement with the attack. Locals claimed there has been a longstanding dispute between a group of people and the local Hindu community regarding the land. Following the year-long dispute, some people lead by Islam Sheikh carried out the attack on Radhakanta and Shitola temples in the evening.
