Six members from the question paper leak syndicate held in Barisal

Barisal police have detained six members of a question paper leak syndicate, including three Dhaka University (DU) students, for their alleged attempt to leak admission test question paper of Barisal University’s science department. The six – Muyeedur Rahman Baki, Maruf Hossain, Md Alamgir Shahin, Md Alamgir Shahin,   Md Rakib Akon and Md Sabbir Ahmed Pritam were arrested from a house in Barisal city’s Arshad Ali Contractor lane on Saturday morning. Police seized five bluetooth earphones, five ATM cards, an anti-jammer and 11 mobile sets with 13 SIM cards from them. Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Commissioner SM Ruhul Amin confirmed their arrest at a  press conference held at BMP headquarters. “During our primary interrogation, the students have confessed to being involved in leaking the question papers of several universities’ entrance exams,” said the police commissioner. He explained that their method was to leaking the question papers out of the exam hall by using the devices seized. They also got the answers through them as well. “We will contact Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before proceeding further on prosecuting Maruf Hossain because they were looking for him first,” said the commissioner adding that cases will be filed against the accused after further investigation. However, Barisal University’s Vice Chancellor Dr SM Imamul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune that no question papers from their admission tests were leaked. He claimed that a group of frauds are making money by luring the aspiring candidates with false promises. “There is no chance of question paper leak during the admission test at my university this year as I have directly supervised the making and distribution of the question papers,” Dr Inamul added. According to police sources, one of the detainees Muyeedur Rahman Baki, a third-year student of Barisal University, let the other stay at his rented house. Of the arrested, Maruf Hossain is a third-year student of Geology at Dhaka University, Md Alamgir Shahin is a final-year student at DU’s Soil, Water and Environment department, and Mahmudul Hasan Abid is a third-year student of the Mathematics at Dhaka University. All of them are residential students at the DU Amar Ekushey Hall. The remaining two are Md Sabbir Ahmed Pritam, a third-year student of Golachipa Degree College and Md Rakib Akon, a third-year student at Mohammamdpur Degree College.
