Dec 12 to be observed as National ICT Day

The Cabinet has approved a proposal to observe December 12 as the National Information and Communication Technology Day to accept the concept of Digital Bangladesh at the state-level and recognise the country’s advancement in the ICT sector. Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam disclosed this at a press briefing after Monday's weekly cabinet meeting. He said, “The Cabinet approved the proposal as Bangladesh has advanced much in ICT sector and now Bangladesh might be at the seventh or eighth position in the world in terms of density of our mobile and internet users.”

“We at the state level accepted the concept of digital Bangladesh (with adaptation of the proposal),” he said, adding that the proposal was brought to make the concept a memorable one. December 12 has been chosen as on that day in 2008 the Awami League formally introduced the concept of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ in its election manifesto, he said.
