The dawn to dusk hartal called by Rangamati unit Jubo League to protest the recent murder of Awami League leader Arabind Chakma passed peacefully on Thursday.
No long-route buses entered or exited the city during the hartal, and the movment of all motorized vehicles was suspended.
Apart from some sporadic picketing by Jubo League activists at different parts of the Rangamati, the strike passed without major incident.
Law enforcement personnel maintained a heavy presence at important areas of the city during the hartal.

Earlier on Tuesday, Jurachari upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Arabindu Chakma was shot and killed in public.
In a separate attack around the same time, Bilaichhari upazila Awami League Vice-President Russell Marma was assaulted by a group which laid upon him with melee weapons.
Russell was grievously injured, but survived.
