PM media adviser asks journos to take sides on five issues
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Information Affairs Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Showdhury has said journalists should not bother about being neutral on five things – independence of Bangladesh, drug abuse, militancy, communalism and corruption. “Journalists should ensure objectivity and neutrality while working on news. This aspect is prioritized in any training course. But there should be no compromise or concern for neutrality on five matters. You should firmly take sides. These are independence, drug abuse, militancy, communal forces and corruption,” he said while addressing the annual general meeting of Khulna Press Club at the club's auditorium in Khulna city on Friday noon. “Journalists should work together against drug abuse, militancy, corruption, communal forces, and work to safeguard the independence and sovereignty of the country,” he continued. The event was presided over by Khulna Press Club President SM Habib. Khula Zila Parishad Chairman Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Miah and Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Amin Ul Ahsan also spoke on the occasion.
