11 muggers posing as DB police held

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has detained 11 suspect members of a mugging gang who committed crimes posing as DB police. The arrestees are identified as Haradhon Das alias Dhoni, 37, Mamun Uddin alias Mamun, 35, Kawsar Hamid Raju, 31, Jahedul Azam, 35, Shahed Rana, 31, Shawkat Ali alias Manik, 32, Selim Mahmud, 44, Rezaul Karim, 51, Md Rubel, 30, Jamsedul Karim alias Babul, 35 and Md Masud, 28. DB’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (North) Md Kamruzzaman said the muggers were detained in drives conducted in different parts of Chittagong  city on Tuesday. The police recovered a CNG auto-rickshaw, two motorcycles, a wireless set, a pair of handcuffs, two jackets with “DB” written on the back, a toy pistol and two looted mobile sets. On December 28, a group of muggers posing as DB officers forced a student to get off a bus at Love Lane area accusing him of carrying yaba pills. The muggers took cash and mobile phone from the students before releasing him. The victim filed a case in this connection on Tuesday. Later, the DB police uncovered the gang of fake DB police while investigating the mugging incident. Details about the mugging gang will be disclosed at a press conference at Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s headquarters on Wednesday.
