
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a high official of Jessore's Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) for demanding bribes from a liquor shop owner.
After being tipped off, an ACC team led by Dhaka Divisional Director (DDD) of ACC, Nasim Anwar, arrested Md Nazmul Kabir, deputy director of Jessore unit of DNC in the afternoon.
Nasim informed the media that Nazmul demanded Tk3 lakh for the renewal of a license from a resident of Jessore named Mohabbat Ali Tutul, a locally produced liquor business owner. The price was later negotiated at Tk2 lakh.
Tutul handed over the cash to Nazmul at the Jessore DNC office in the afternoon, which the later stashed in his office drawer.
Later that afternoon, Nasim, along with the police and DNC's Executive Magistrate, Arifur Rahman carried out the operation at Nazmul's office, where they retrieved the cash.
Arifur told reporters: "Nazmul was arrested when the money was found.”
