Bangladesh Association of Pourasava Service (BAPS) has announced a two-day work abstention program in all the municipalities of the country from Monday demanding to get salary and benefits from the treasury.
The employees in all the municipalities across the country will observe the work abstention from 6am on Monday to 6pm on Tuesday, said BAPS President Abdul Alim Mollah
Only the water supply will remain normal during the work abstention. The other services will be suspended, he added.
BAPS General Secretary Md Sahidul Islam said the employees in 226 of the 327 municipalities are not regularly getting their salary and allowances.
In total, salary and allowances worth Tk516 crore have been due.
“It requires Tk 620 crore for (the salary and allowences) of all the municipalities. This is a very small amount and the government, if it is willing, could afford it from the treasury,” Sahidul added.
