A woman, who allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself on fire and jumping from the roof of a three-storey building at Kobi Nazrul Road in Chandpur town, has died on the way to Dhaka.
Chandpur model police station Sub-Inspector Noor Miah said Swapna Begum, 32, wife of ambulance driver Monir Hossain, had jumped from the rooftop of the building at the employees quarter of the 25O-bed Chandpur Government Hospital after setting herself on fire with kerosene around 1am on Friday.
The woman and her husband had argued over their two sons' studies earlier at around 8pm on Thursday, the SI added.
Swapna suffered severe burn injuries after the incident and her husband took her to the nearby hospital.
The doctors at Chandpur Government Hospital instantly referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but the woman died on the way.
On receiving information that Swapna's relatives were trying to bury her at a graveyard in the Bus Stand area of the town, a team from Chandpur model police station went to the location and seized the dead body to send it for autopsy.
The deceased's husband has been missing since the incident.
