Update : 20 Feb 2018, 03:53 PM
A Rohingya girl has been arrested from the Khulna passport office while trying to obtain a Bangladeshi passport. Sharmin Akhter, 22, was arrested along with her Bangladeshi boyfriend Saifullah Chowdhury, 44, Monday afternoon. Khulna’s Sonadanga Model police station Officer-in-Charge of Momtazul Haque said: "A young Rohingya girl named Sharmin was trying to obtain a Bangladeshi passport with Saifullah’s help around 5:30pm on Monday." The police was then informed of their suspicious behaviour by a passport officer, after which verification was run and the two were arrested. OC Momtazul also said: “During primary interrogation, Saifullah said he is son of Nurul Kabir Chowdhury, and a resident of Satkania upazila in Chittagong. He and the Rohingya girl got into an affair and ran off to Khulna.” The family of the girl lives in the Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila. A general dairy has been filed with the Sonadanga police station, he added. “Both of them will be produced before a court on Tuesday, and the court will decide the next steps,” he said.
