One killed, over 30 injured in elephant attack at Kutupalong camp

A wild elephant rampaged through Kutupalong Rohingya camp on Thursday, killing one person and injuring several others at around 8:30am. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nikarujjaman confirmed the incident. The attack occurred at block D4 of the Modhuchara area in Kutupalang camp. Around 30 people received minor injuries and 20 huts were demolished. One person was killed and 30 others injured when the enraged elephant demolished block D4 of Kutupalong refugee camp Dhaka TribuneThe UNO added that officials from the Forest Department arrived at the scene and tactfully lead the elephant back to the forest. Locals said the elephant entered the camp early in the morning and started attacking the refugees, causing Thousands of people to start running away in a panic. The deceased was identified as Fayez, son of Nur Mohammad from Kutupalang unregisterd camp’s D4 block. The OC of Ukhiya police station said elephants often attack locals in these areas. The Rohingyas have built shacks near the forest, close to areas that are inhabited by elephants, increasing the risk of such attacks.
