A huge traffic jam has formed on both sides of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, starting all the way from Eliotganj Bridge in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla coming up to the Meghna Bridge.
The jam on Tuesday morning stretched for 40km. Officer-in-charge of Daudkandi highway police station Abul Kalam Azad: “Even though it eased for a while after 9pm, vehicles are still moving slowly from Hasanpur in Daudkandi to Sonargaon in Narayanganj.”
According to the OC, due to an accident on the road, and on-going construction work on both sides of the highway near Sonargaon, the traffic jam formed around 6pm on Monday. Gradually, it stretched to a length of 40km.
“The pressure has started lessening, although there is still traffic on the Comilla part for 5-6km and on the other side of Meghna. The police are trying to make the highway active again,” OC Abul added.
