41 detained in Benapole while illegally crossing border
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 41 people, including four Indian nationals, Tuesday morning when they illegally crossed into Bangladesh from India through the Putkhali border point in Sharsha upazila of Jessore. Lt Col Tarikul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB 49 battalion, said acting on a tip-off, a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area and detained 21 men, 17 women and three children when they crossed into the Bangladesh territory. The Indian nationals were from 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, and the rest from Narail, Faridpur, Khulna, Barisal, Pirojpur and Gopalganj. One of the victims, Rahima Khatun said a gang of traffickers brought them to the border from India’s Bongaon area. However, sensing the presence of BGB members, the traffickers managed to flee the scene. The detainees were handed over to Beanpole police station. A case was filed with the police station.
