A student of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been stabbed to death by muggers in Sylhet.
The victim, Mahid Al Salam, was an MA student at the Department of Economics.
South Surma police station Sub-Inspector Ripon said the incident took place at Keane bridge in the early hours of Monday.
“Mahid was passing through the area on a rickshaw around 1am when he was stopped by a group of muggers. They stabbed him in the legs and left with Mehedi's mobile phone and other valuables,” Ripon said.
The rickshaw-puller took Mahid to a nearby pharmacy. From there, he was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital but died on the way due to excessive bleeding.
His body has been kept at the hospital's morgue after an autopsy.
