Al-Amin, accused of raping 8 year-old, dies in ‘gunfight’ with RAB

Al-Amin alias Babu, accused of raping 8 year-old Soheli, has died in a gunfight with members of RAB, according to the elite force. The gunfight occurred on Monday around 3:30am in Mandalgati area of Shahartali in Jessore, said RAB. The deceased is the son of late Abu Kalam of Kholadanga colony area. RAB-6 Jessore camp Commander, Major Ziaur Rahman said that they were tipped off about some armed criminals located in Mandalgati area. RAB conducted a raid there around 3am. When the criminals were alerted of their presence, they began shooting frantically. RAB countered, which caused the criminals to retreat. After searching the area, a bullet-ridden body was recovered. The body was taken to Jessore General Hospital when the doctors pronounced him dead. A shooter gun, a round of bullets and a sharp weapon were recovered from the scene. Ziaur Rahman confirmed that Al-Amin had lured Soheli, his niece, to a garden in Kholadanga area and raped her on March 30. Later a case was filed against him in Kotwali police station.
