US-Bangla plane crash survivor Shaon unaware of wife’s death

Update : 13 Apr 2018, 02:29 PM
Dr Rezwanul Haque Shaon, a survivor of the deadly Nepal plane crash, has not been told about his wife Tahira Tanvin Shashi’s death in the accident. Shaon is being treated at Singapore General Hospital’s Burn Unit. His father Dr Mozammel Haque Manik, a resident of Manikganj, told the Dhaka Tribune that they hid the news of his daughter-in-law’s death fearing his son’s condition might worsen after learning about Shashi’s fate. “The doctors advised us to conceal the truth for the time being,” Manik said, adding that his son had suffered 40% burn injuries. The condition of Shaon’s head, ears, face and hands is not good. “He is scheduled to undergo another surgery on Friday. It will be seventh one since the accident. Tissues from his legs will be transplanted to his face, hands and nose,” he added. Shaon and his wife were going to Nepal on March 12 to celebrate their marriage anniversary. Shashi was killed when the US-Bangla plane, carrying 71 people, crashed at a field near the Tribhuvan International Airport. Shaon was initially admitted to a local hospital and was later taken to Singapore.
