
A Lakshmipur court on Wednesday sentenced 14 people to life in prison each, for killing a college student in the district’s Sadar upazila while committing robbery in a house in 2011.
Among the convicts, five were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, a gang of robbers attacked the house of Kartik Paul at the upazila’s Kajir Dighirpar on July 2 in 2011.
Being obstructed, they opened fire on Dipta Paul, son of Kartik and a college student, leaving him dead on the spot, and looted valuables, gold and cash.
Dipta’s uncle Sanjay Paul also suffered bullet injuries.
Later, the victim’s father filed a murder and robbery case accusing 15 people on July 3 with Sadar Police Station.
Police submitted a charge sheet in April 2013 against 14 people.
After examining all the records and 22 witnesses, Lakshmipur additional district and sessions judge Nazmul Huda Talukder handed down the verdict.
