
A total of 94 people have been arrested in Rajshahi including two Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) members and a Jamaat-e-Islami member.
Police arrested them while conducting two separate drives in the Rajshahi metropolitan area from Tuesday night till the early hours of Wednesday.
Of the 94 arrests, 51 were made by district police and 43 by metropolitan police.
The two arrested JMB members are Jalal Uddin, 55, and her son Md Habib, 30, both hailing from Tarash village of Puthia upazila. The Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi district police arrested them from their own home as they had them on their list of JMB members.
The Jamaat-e-Islami member was arrested from the Charghat area of the district. The arrestee Shahin Kamal, 45, hails from the Asgarpur Bazar area of the upazila.
Rajshahi district spokesperson Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdur Razzak Khan said: “Along with these three, a further 48 people were arrested by eight police stations and DB for various crimes. Most of these criminals had warrants in their name. We will take legal action against them.”
Meanwhile, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Iftekhair Alam said: “12 police stations under RMP have collaborated with DB to arrest a total of 43 people. Most of these people had existing warrants in their name. Adding to this, some people have been arrested while in possession of drugs. They have all been prosecuted and incarcerated.”
