Rohingya refugees demonstrate during UN Security Council delegation visit

Hundreds of Rohingya refugees demonstrated during a visit of a 30-member United Nations Security Council (UNSC) delegation at the Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar on Sunday. The demonstration took place at D-5 block of the camp, said police. Ukhiya police station OC Abul Khair said the Rohingya refugees, carrying placards with their demands written on them, raised slogans to draw the attention of the visiting UN delegates. He said the refugees were demanding their repatriation to their home as soon as possible. Later, police and Ansar personnel stopped the protest, he said. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LICNuVLjsV0[/embed] Around 350,000 refugees are currently living at Kutupalong refugee camp. Over 700,000 Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh last year. The number of refugees is over a million in total now.

Earlier, the delegation arrived on Saturday afternoon and was received by State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and acting Foreign Secretary Rear Admiral (retd) M Khurshed Alam in Cox’s Bazar. Current UNSC President Gustavo Meza-Cuadra is leading the delegation. The delegation will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Monday morning and will leave Dhaka afterwards for Myanmar.
