The election to Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila’s 7 Ponabalia Union Parishad is finally being held two years after the scheduled.
Voting started at 8am on Tuesday amid a festive atmosphere and will end at 4pm.
The election was put on hold after a case was filed over the voter list.
Five contestants are vying for the chairman’s post. Forty-seven others are contesting for the three reserved seats for women and nine general member seats.
The union has 11,473 voters, including, 5,553 women.
No report of any untoward incident has been received so far.
