Five people, including a schoolgirl, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Khulna, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Pirojpur and Brahmanabria districts on Wednesday and Tuesday.
Khulna, a man was killed when a thunderbolt struck him while fishing in a water body amid rain at Lakhohati Uttar village in Digholia upazila around 8am on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Majibur Rahman, 50, said Barakpur Union Parishad Chairman Gazi Zakir Hossain.
In Kishoreganj, a woman named Swarupa Akter, 45, wife of Omar Gazi of Samarchar village, was killed when a thunderbolt hit her at Ashtagram bazar in Astagram upazila around 8pm Tuesday.
In Brahmanbaria, a schoolgirl was killed in a lightning strike when she went out from her home during rain around 7am at Amtali village, said Ali Arshad, the OC of Bijoynagar police station.
The deceased was identified as Nipa Akter, 16, daughter of Abdul Latif.
In Pirojpur, a schoolboy was killed after being hit by lightning when he was bringing cattle home from a field at Bhezoki village in Mathbaria upazila around Wednesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Yeasin Darji, 9, son of Yunus Darji of the village.
In Tangail, another woman named Nurjahan Begum, 50, died after being struck by a thunderbolt at Dhonbari upazila Tuesday afternoon, reports the Dhaka Tribune's dirtsict correspondent Abdullah Al Numan.
She was working in the courtyard of her house when the lightning strike occurred.
