At least 10 suspected drug dealers have been killed in separate “gunfights” with law enforcers in nine districts.
The incidents took place on Saturday.
So far, about 70 people have been killed in such incidents of “gunfights” across the country in less than two weeks since law enforcement agencies launched their latest crackdown on drug traders.
In Mymensingh, a suspected drug dealer was killed in “gunfight” with the Detective Branch of police in Ishwarganj upazila in the early hours of the day.
The deceased was identified as Shahjahan, 30.
Ashikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of DB police in Mymensingh district, said acting on a tip-off, the DB police and Ishwarganj police station conducted a joint drive in Telwari Gondimore.
“The drug dealers hurled brickbats at us. In retaliation, we fired on them,” he said.
Police found Shahjahan’s bullet-ridden body on the spot while the others fled.
He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said the DB official.

In Pabna, a suspected drug trader named Abdur Rahman was killed in a “gunfight” with police at sadar upazila.
Goutam Biswas, additional superintendent of police, said they conducted a drive in Mahendrapur area in the early hours of the day.
The criminals carried out an attack on the police and the law enforcers fired on them in retaliation, he said.
Police found Rahman’s body from the spot while the others fled the scene.
Three police members were also injured in the incident. They are now undergoing treatment at the Pabna sadar hospital.
One shutter gun, several rounds of bullet, four cartridges, 200 contraband yaba pills and 500 grams of cannabis were also recovered from the spot.
In Thakurgaon, a suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged shootout with police at sadar upazila.
The deceased is Mobarak Hossain Kutti, 44.
Sadar police station OC Abdul Latif Miah said they conducted a drive in Begunbari area following a tip-off.
Latif said sensing police presence, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to fire back.
Police recovered Mobarak’s bullet-wound body from the spot and rushed him to Thakurgaon Adhunik Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
The law enforcers recovered 100 yaba tablets from the spot, said the OC.

In Cumilla, two suspected drug traders were killed in a “gunfight” with police at Brahmanpara upazila.
The deceased are Babul, 40, and Almas, 36.
Brahmanpara police station OC Syed Abu Mohammad Shajahan Kobir said they conducted a tradrive after being tipped off that the drug traders were going to meet in Bagra area.
“Sensing our presence they fired on us and we also fired back,” the OC said.
At one stage the criminals fled the scene. Police found the two bodies on the spot. Around 40 kg cannabis and a foreign pistol were also recovered.
The duo were accused in a number of cases regarding possessing of drugs, the OC further said.
In Barguna, police recovered the body of a suspected drug trader named Sagir Khan from Jakirtabak area.
According to locals, Sagir died among a gunfight among the drug traders.
Barguna police station OC Masuduzzman said they spotted the body in the early morning.
He said there are seven drug related cases against Sagir.
Police recovered a pipe gun, five rounds of bullet and 100 yaba tablets from the spot.
In Chandpur, top listed drug trader Bablu, 35, was killed in a “gunfight” with the DB police and Kochua police.
Kochua police station OC Syed Mahbubur Rahman said acting on a tip-off they conducted a raid at Babul’s place in the brickfield area in the early hours of the day.
Sensing police presence Babul fired on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.
At one stage Babul was shot. Police rushed him to the upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered 120 yaba pills from his place, said the OC, adding that there are a number of cases against Babul.
In Kurigram, a suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Bhurungamari upazila.
The deceased is Ibrahim Ali, 34.
Bhurungamari police station OC Imtiaz Kabir said following a tip-off, they conducted a drive in Dakkhin Banshjani village to seize drugs in the early morning.
The drug peddlers fired on police, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, he said.
Ibrahim received bullet at his right leg. Police rushed him to a local health complex and later shifted him to Kurigram sadar hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Two policemen were also injured in the incident, the OC said.
In Joypurhat, a suspected drug dealer was killed in an alleged shootout with the members of Rapid Action Battalion or RAB.
The RAB members engaged in the “gunfight” with a number of suspected drug dealers in Vimpur area under Panchbibi police station.
Huge cache of drugs, firearms and bullets were also recovered from the spot.
In Dinajpur, a listed drug trader Sabdarul was killed in a “gunfight” with RAB 13 at Birganj upazila.
Two RAB members were also injured during the incident.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan confirmed the casualties in Joypurhat and Dinajpur.
