Three killed in lightning strike in Narsingdi, one in Bogra

Three including two women were killed when a lightning bolt struck a boat bearing them in Meghna River near Nolbata area in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi.


They were killed at around 3pm on Tuesday. Seven others were also injured during the incident.


The deceased are: Rehana Begum, 35, Farida Begum, 45, and Selim Mia, 25. The injured are: Rubel, 20, Sanaullah, 25, Bhutto, 32, Kutub Uddin, 26, Jaber, 25, Alam, 25, and Farhad, 25.


Additional Police Superintendent (ASP) Shahriar Alam confirmed the incident. Among the seven injured, three have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College while the rest are being treated in Narsingdi Sadar hospital.


In a separate incident, a housewife from Bogra was killed in a lightning strike in Paschimpara village of Bhoria upazila in Shibganj upazila.


Mahmuda Khatun, the 30-year-old housewife, was killed when she was struck by lightning while picking mangoes from a tree near her home at around 12pm on Tuesday.


Officer In-charge of Shibganj police station confirmed the matter, while Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Alamgir Kabir provided a compensation of Tk10,000 after visiting the deceased's family.
