BGP assures BGB taking back Rohingya refugees, at the Tambru no man’s land

The four-hour long meeting began at the BGB regional headquarters in Cox's Bazar around 12pm

Myanmar has given the assurance of taking back the Rohingya people currently staying in the no man’s land of the Tambru border, of the Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.

The assurance was given Thursday at a flag meeting held between regional commanders of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP), in Cox’s Bazar.

The four-hour long meeting began at the BGB regional headquarters in Cox's Bazar around 12pm.

BGB Cox's Bazar Regional Commander Brigadier General SM Rakibullah briefed the media after the meeting, stating that bilateral talks between the two parties were discussed about regular joint patrolling along the border, yaba resistance, and the border situation.

The two countries also agreed to stop criminal activities along the border areas.

“Meetings of this nature will take place every two months,” said Brig Gen Rakibullah. “We have strictly warned them (BGP) about deployment of troops in border areas, to driveaway the Rohingyasstaying at Zero Point in Konarpara,”he added.

“They assured us that they will look into this matter seriously,” he further said.

Brig Gen Rakibullah also added: “We have rejected BGP’sclaim of Myanmar rebels staying in the Naikhongchhari border.”

BGB Cox's Bazar Regional Commander Brigadier General SM Rakibullah led a nine member delegation from Bangladesh, while BGB's Maungdaw Regional Commander Brigadier General MoinTuo led a 12 member delegation from Myanmar.
