Bodies of a nonagenarian mother and her sexagenarian daughter were found inside the reserve water tank of a residential building in the Ambagan area under Khulshi police station in Chittagong city on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Monwara Begum, 94, and Meherunnesa Begum, 67, a former principal officer of Rupali Bank Limited.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s Assistant Commissioner (Bayezid Zone) Sohel Rana said Meherunnesa, who was single, used to live with her mother in the house, named Meher Manjil.
"We rushed to the spot after receiving information from the relatives of the deceased. Later, we recovered the bodies with the help of fire fighters," Rana said.
Police’s Crime Scene Unit also collected evidences, including blood-stained clothes, from the three-storey building.
Meherunnesa nephew alleged that the duo was killed by people who wanted to grab their property.
Police, however, said they were looking into every possible motive behind the deaths.
Meanwhile, Khulshi police OC Sheikh Mohammad Nasir told reporters that these could have been premeditated murders.
