Nine others were also injured in the incident
Six people, mostly women and children, were killed in a road crash on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Narsingdi on Friday, near the Kharakmara area.
The deceased are Nurunnahar, 65, her daughters Hasina Akter, 32 and Marzia Akter, 17, their neighbours Zannati, 14, Bayed, 10, and the leguna driver Masum, 21.
Nine others were also injured in the incident.
According to local police and fire service officials, a party of 70-80 people, hailing from the Ramnagar area of Raipura Upazila, rented five legunas (a type of small public transport) on Friday to visit the Dream Holiday Park in Narsingdi.
One of these legunas collided head on with an Ena Paribahan bus on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway near Kondarpara Bus Stand, leaving three people dead on the spot.
Two other critically injured passengers succumbed to their injuries while being taken to the Narsingdi Zila Hospital for treatment. Another died after being shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police Shafiur Rahman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Adding more detail, Narsingdi Fire Service Deputy Secretary Director MD Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan said: “We rescued the injured victims of the crash as soon as we received a tip off. Condition of some of the injured victims is critical.”
Meanwhile, Narsingdi Zila Hospital Residential Medical Officer (RMO) MN Mizanur Rahman said: “Six of the injured were sent to DMCH for treatment.”
Among the survivors, Marzia succumbed to her injuries in the DMCH later on Saturday. The Highway Police have filed a case against the bus driver involved in the accident.
