4 suspected robbers killed in 'gunfights'

Law enforcers also found weapons and ammunition form different spots where the 'gunfights' took place

Four suspected robbers have been killed in so called gunfights in Chapainawabganj, Jessore and Narail districts.

In Chapainawabganj, a suspected robber was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Shibganj upazila. 

The identity of the deceased suspect could not be confirmed as yet.

RAB 5 Chapainawabganj Camp Deputy Commander ASP Abu Khayer confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, saying: “A gang of robbers opened fire at a RAB patrol team, as the team approached Mohammadpur-Trimohoni area around 1:30am on Tuesday.

“RAB retaliated, triggering a gunfight. Later, one suspect was found injured on the scene. He was taken to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.”

RAB sources added that one pistol, one magazine, four bullets, and two machetes were seized from the spot.

In Narail, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Lohagara upazila. Four policemen were also injured during the incident, which took place in the early hours of the day.

Lohagara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Probir Kumar Biswas confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. 

He said: “Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Lohagara area. Sensing police presence, the robbers began firing at the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in retaliation.

“One of the robbers was injured in the gunfight. He was taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.”

Police seized a locally made gun and a machete from the scene.

In Jessore, police found the bullet-riddled bodies of two unidentified men in Manirampur area, and claimed they were killed in a “gunfight” between two rival gangs.

Confirming the matter, Manirampur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mokarram Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune: “The bodies were found near Jamtola Road of Manirampur around 2am. They were killed in a gunfight between two groups of robbers.”

He continued: “Khedapara Camp In-Charge Sub-Inspector Ainuddin heard gunshots near Amtola Intersection while he was on the road. He spotted a few suspects running away.

“When he went there, Ainuddin found two bodies lying beside the road. Later, a police team arrived at the spot and took the bodies to Jessore General Hospital.”

One of the deceased is a male aged around 55 years, the other is an approximately 45 year old male.  Police seized four machetes, two coils of rope, and one saw from the scene.
