The cause of Sunday morning’s blaze is unclear
A mentally challenged man, restrained in iron chains, has been burnt to death in a slum fire at the city’s Chandgaon area.
The victim was identified as Rabiul Alam, 30.
The fire, originating around 10:45am on Sunday, gutted around 36 shanties.
Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of the Chittagong Fire Service, said eight firefighting units rushed to the spot.
The fire was doused around 1:30pm.
“A mentally challenged man was burnt to death. He could not escape as he was chained inside his house,” said Jasim.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.
