Four firearms and 400,000 yaba pills have been recovered after two suspected drug dealers were killed in an alleged gunfight with RAB in Cox’s Bazar.
The ‘gunfight’ took place on Tuesday morning at Panerchhara area on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknar road.
RAB identified the suspected drug dealers as Nijam Uddin, 35, and Rudra, 30.
Major Mehedi Hasan, company commander of RAB 7 Cox’s Bazar, said they set up a check post at Panerchhara after learning that a big large consignment of yaba was being brought to the town in an oil tanker.
“Several men in an oil tanker did not stop at the check post and tried to flee. When we followed them, they fired at us, triggering a skirmish,” he said.
Some of the smugglers fled abandoning the tanker.
“We found the bodies of the two smugglers and more than 400,000 yaba pills in the tanker,” Mehedi said. “We also recovered two foreign -made pistols and two light guns.”
The bodies have been sent to Cox’s Bazar Model Sadar Police Station.
