People came from different districts to attend the mezban after paying their respects to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
On Wednesday, on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s 43rd death anniversary, a mezban was held in Tungipara village, Gopalganj, the birthplace of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
At least 40,000 people from different districts came to the mezban after paying their respects to the father of the nation at his grave.
The event was organized by late Chittagong mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury’s charitable foundation, and the Chittagong city unit of the Awami League.
“Food was arranged for no less than 30,000 Muslims at the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University College field,” said Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, joint general secretary of the ruling party's Chittagong unit. “We also arranged lunches for around 10,000 people of other religious faiths at the Baladanga SM Musa High School field.”
ABM Mohiuddin's APS Mohammad Osman Gani said they have been arranging the mezban in Tungipara on August 15 since 1984.
Earlier in the day, representatives of the charitable foundation as well as leaders and activists of the Chittagong city unit of the Awami League paid tribute to the father of the nation with floral wreaths.
