A university student has drowned in the sea at Cox's Bazar.
Iftekharul Alam, 25, a second-year student of Brac University, drowned when he went to take a bath at the Sea Inn beach point on Saturday.
Iftekhar originally hailed from Dulsarda area of Feni Sadar upazila.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Additional Superintendent of Cox's Bazar tourist police, Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, said: "Two days earlier, Iftekhar arrived in Cox's Bazar with three other friends and checked in at a seaside hotel.
"On Saturday morning, all of them went to Sea Inn beach point to bath in the sea," he continued. "At one point, Iftekhar became suffocated with seawater, started vomiting blood and lost consciousness. Later, his friends with the help of tourist police, took him to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead."
According to Iftekhar's friends, Iftekhar was intoxicated when he went to the beach, Rabbi said. He was at the farthest point of the beach when he drowned.
