Fourth-grader raped: Court records victim's statements

A fourth-grader in Kurigram, who was raped by Headmaster MuhtamimMoulana Abdul Basit of Uttar Baitkamari Madrasa in the Rowmari Upazila of Kurigram,gave her statement before a court on Monday.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate MizanurRahamn recorded her statements, said SI Akter Hossain, investigation officer of the case.

The victim, in her statements, said she was raped by Basit while she was going to him for learning Kuran.

According previous reports, Rowmari police arrested Headmaster, MuhtamimMoulana Abdul Basit, 42, for raping a fourth-grade student of Uttar Baitkamari Madrasa, in the RowmariUpazila of Kurigram.

The rapist Abdul Basit, son of a Nizamuddin from Baitkamari village was arrested from the Sherawa Mosque Market area of Rangpur and was taken to the Rowmari police station on Friday.

SI Tuhin Mia, Investigating Officer confirming the matter, said: "A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. He was sent to Kurigram jail in a case under section 1 of the Repression Tribunal 9."

The fourth-grader started her Quran education under Abdul Basit five months ago. The victim's family members noticed the physical changes and took her to Rowmari Heath Complex on August 29.

The doctors said the girl was five months pregnant. The student's family complained that the Madrasa's headmaster had threatened the girl and assaulted her for five and a half months.

Officer-in-charge of Rowmari Police Station Jahangir Alam also confirmed the incident.
