A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion has detained two suspected smugglers with around $89,900 at the Benapole border area in Jessore.
The detainees are Obaidul Rahman, 27, son of Amirul Islam of Narail; and Masud Rana, 30, son of Kawsar Ali— from the same district.
A team of BGB 49 searched a Jessore-bound bus near Amrakhali check post and detained two smugglers with $89,900 around 11am on Thursday.
BGB sources said the smugglers obtained the dollars from a money exchange at the Benapole check post.
Amrakhali BGB Commander Subedar Mizanur Rahman said: "Acting on a tip-off, we searched the bus and detained the duo with the US dollars.”
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Commander of Jessore 49 BGB Battalion Lt Col Ariful Haque said: "The smugglers have been handed over to police after a case was filed against them."
