He has been accused of corruption and helping the Jamaat-e-Islami
Activists of ruling Awami League have declared ruling party parliamentarian Manoranjan Shill Gopal an unwelcome person in Dinajpur for his alleged irregularities, corruption, and helping the Jamaat-e-Islami get a foothold in the locality.
The announcement came at a Birganj-Kaharol Awami League Oikya Parishad rally on Wednesday in Birganj.
Gopal is the Awami League MP from Dinajpur 1 constituency.
Wednesday’s rally was attended by Oikya Parishad’s president, Hamidul Islam, Awami League’s Birganj Upazila unit President, Zakaria Zaka, former MPs Aminul Islam and Abdul Malek Sarkar, and former Chhatra League vice president Abu Hossain, among others.
A huge procession, with an estimated 11,000 people participating, preceded the rally. They also blocked the Thakurgaon-Dinajpur road that caused severe traffic congestion.
Traffic resumed after police intervened and directed people off the road.
