Police will take actions against anyone plotting subversive activities or creating anarchy inside Bangladesh in the name of protests, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Dr Md Jabed Patwari has said.

He made statement while replying to reporters' questions after attending an event at Police Staff College in Mirpur, Dhaka.

The program titled "Bangladesh Police Scholarship Awards 2018" was held around 10:45am on Saturday.

When asked about police preparation surrounding the upcoming national election, the IGP said: “Police are perfectly capable of upholding law and order inside Banladesh.

"They are prepared, and are taking preparations to prevent any sabotage plot," he said.

Jabed Patwari added: "No one will be allowed to turn a peaceful environment unstable in the name of protest."

Regarding BNP's claims about mass arrest of party men before the polls, he said: "There is no relation between the arrests and the election.

"The arrests are not made against the leaders or activists of any particular party. Only those who have cases or warrants against them are arrested. They are not arrested based on their political identities."

In a recent survey, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) found that law enforcement agencies were the most corrupt service sector in Bangladesh.

In 2017, a total of 66.5% of the population became victims of corruption while availing services from different service providing sectors.

Among them, the law enforcement agencies came first, as 72.5% of the population faced corruption from them.

When asked about the survery, Patwari said: "A committee has been made to look into the matter."

In the program organized by Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust, scholarships were awarded to 361 students who had achieved good results in SSC, Dakhil and equivalent and belonged to police families.

The event was presided over by Additional Inspector General of Police AHRM Md Mohsin Hossain.
