Ilias Kanchan: Pedestrians’ lack of adherence to rules causes accidents

Chairman of Nirapad Sarak Chai (NiSCha) Ilias Kanchan has said unruly movement by pedestrians on roads is a major cause of accidents in recent times.

The government has given some directives related to road safety following the students’ protests demanding safer roads, but regretfully, pedestrians still break rules while walking on the roads.”

Ilias Kanchan also requested walkers not to speak over the phone while crossing roads.

The road safety campaigner made these statements while addressing a meeting of NiSCha, held at the National Press Club on Thursday afternoon, as the chief guest.

He further  addressed to the government to make stricter laws for traffic rules violators, particularly pedestrians.

NiSCha Joint General Secretary Liton Arshad and General Member Mohammad Jahirul Islam were among other speakers at the meeting.

NiSCha International Affairs Secretary Mirajul Moyeen Joy gave a presentation at the meeting on how the organization is working to ensure safe road as well as training drivers and creating public awareness.

NiSCha is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring safe roads throughout the country. It comprises of around 15,000 members over 70 branches countrywide.
