Police have recovered the bodies of a farmer and his brother from Jessore’s Sharsha and Keshabpur upazilas respectively.
The body of Azizul, 45, was recovered around 9am Sunday after a local reported the discovery; while police recovered the body of Faruq, 50, on Sunday morning. Both were identified at Jessore General Hospital morgue by their brother Saidul.
Family members of the deceased claim the two had left the house to go to the bazaar around 7pm on Saturday. When they did not return by 10pm, their family began looking for them, and eventually notified the police.
However, police suspect that they may have been killed in a “turf war” between two groups of drug dealers.
Sharsha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moshiur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “We recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. We suspect that he was a drug trader killed in a turf war.”
Sharsha Bagachra police camp OC Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahim Haoladar said: “Azizul is a well-known drug dealer. He had 7-8 narcotics cases against him.”
However, Azizul’s brother Saidul says he was a small businessman, and that he lost his hands to a bomb explosion several years ago.
Meanwhile, Keshabpur police station OC Md Shahin confirmed the discovery of Faruq’s body, saying: “Faruq has a mark on his neck. We have sent his body for an autopsy in order to determine whether this is a bullet wound or not.”
