12 were arrested in Lakhai area on Thursday
Police have seized petrol bombs, crude bombs, and explosives during a raid in the Bahubal and Lakhai areas of Habiganj.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Bahubal police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masku Ali said: “On a tip-off, law enforcers conducted a raid in the Mirpur area of Bahubal, and seized six crude bombs and six petrol bombs.
“Police suspect that a certain quarter had hidden these explosives there with plans to conduct sabotage.”
Meanwhile, in a separate drive, police seized 23 explosive devices, including petrol bombs, in Lakhai area.
Lakhai police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Emran Hossain said: “Police received a tip-off that a gang of culprits were meeting in the Bulla Bazar area, to plan sabotage, in early hours of Thursday. Upon sighting the police, the miscreants fled the scene.
“Later, 22 small bombs, two petrol bombs, and one box of gunpowder were seized from the spot.”
Lakhai police station Sub-Inspector Abul Bashar later filed a case against upazila unit BNP General Secretary Abdul Wadud, and 11 other activists, in connection with this.
OC Emran Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that initial investigation has revealed a BNP faction stored the explosives and planned to conduct acts of sabotage.
